Rugby League World Cup 2026: Sydney Transport Guide

Sydney’s World Cup programme uses more than one stadium, so match date and venue must lead every transport booking.

Tournament snapshot: the official schedule opens with Australia v New Zealand in Sydney on Thursday 15 October 2026. Sydney-area matches continue at Allianz Stadium and CommBank Stadium, with a Sydney semi-final double-header scheduled for Sunday 8 November.

The Rugby League World Cup brings men’s and women’s matches to Sydney, Western Sydney and regional centres. The words “Sydney World Cup match” are not enough for a driver or traveller: Allianz Stadium at Moore Park and CommBank Stadium at Parramatta require different rail, road and pickup plans.

Use the current official tournament information and the ticket to confirm the venue, match and gate time. Schedules can be updated, so recheck before travelling.

This is a planning summary, not a replacement for the official draw. Confirm kickoff, ticket inclusions and venue because tournament operations may change.

Allianz Stadium: Moore Park planning

Allianz Stadium sits in the Moore Park precinct east of the CBD. Large events change traffic, parking and pedestrian management around Driver Avenue and surrounding streets. Public transport is often the simplest approach for fans staying near rail or light-rail connections.

For a private pickup, expect a walk to an accessible meeting point outside the most controlled stadium area. Do not use “front of Allianz” as the complete instruction. Agree on a street, side and landmark permitted under the final event plan, and share it before entering.

CommBank Stadium: Parramatta planning

CommBank Stadium is in Parramatta, not central Sydney. Fans staying in the CBD should compare rail and road travel using the actual hotel. Transport for NSW currently advises that valid pre-purchased tickets for tournament games at CommBank Stadium include travel on specified public transport services; check the official event travel page for the final conditions.

A private transfer can suit families or groups travelling from Western Sydney, hotels or the airport, but the return point must accommodate stadium traffic controls. Add all hotel stops before booking rather than dividing the group after the match.

Airport transfers for international supporters

Do not book stadium transport directly from the scheduled landing time. Allow for immigration, bags, customs and hotel check-in. The opening match and semi-finals may attract travelling supporters unfamiliar with Sydney, so give every passenger a written terminal and pickup plan.

The Sydney Airport pickup guide covers T1, T2 and T3 preparation. If several supporters arrive on different flights, consider separate airport pickups and one coordinated match-day vehicle instead of making the first arrivals wait for hours.

Group event transport

Count flags, costumes, mobility devices and luggage as well as people. A match-day group leaving from a hotel may travel light, while an airport-to-match movement may require substantially more storage. Nominate one travelling contact and provide the driver with a manifest where several households are involved.

AT247’s event transfers guide explains multi-leg planning, and the Sydney minibus guide covers larger vehicles.

Treat every match as a separate movement

Supporters attending several fixtures should not reuse one transport plan simply because every ticket says Sydney. A weekday match at Moore Park, a weekend fixture at Parramatta and a semi-final crowd create different peak periods. Save the venue address with each calendar entry and circulate a fresh meeting instruction for every match. This is particularly important for international groups whose accommodation or sightseeing schedule changes during the tournament.

If a match ticket includes eligible public transport, compare that benefit with the needs of the group before booking a vehicle. Rail may be efficient for independent travellers, while a private transfer may suit airport arrivals, mobility needs or several guests sharing one hotel. A mixed plan can work too: travel to the venue by public transport and arrange a pre-confirmed return from an accessible location after the crowd begins to clear.

Information to put in a group itinerary

Record the fixture, venue, ticket gate, hotel entrance, departure time, group contact and return meeting point. Include any hospitality end time and a backup contact. For a transfer quote, provide every passenger, suitcase, mobility device and planned stop. This prevents a vehicle selected for a simple stadium trip from being unsuitable when the same passengers also need an airport movement.
